the book says absolutely nothing about young rays being the thinner disc ones, its speaking in general. however, im sure that a mature china ray has a thicker disc obviously.
what you just quoted from the book is a bit different to what you said earlier and imo changes the sense of it completely.
There is book learning and hands-on learning. I can only speak about the rays I have owned, including the big one in the photo and several more young ones that I supplied to the guy that you are quoting. Just sayin...........

nothing changes or changed.... there's 2 different sentences stating how delicate a China ray's disc is.. sentence 1 of paragraph 3 on page 82, '' the China and Ceja rays are more delicate in captivity than large-eyed rays ''

Tails are very long and thin like a shoe lace and raspy ( and very fragile) , no real stinger. These rays are a big pain to keep going and no way would I recommend them for anyone as a tank pet.
