i think you would be shocked how much a big ray can eat per day

the mix of pellets i use i throw in 4-5 big handfuls (as much as your hand can hold) per day and they would eat more given the chance and thats just to feed 4 rays

i worked it out the other day that i prob spend about £1800 per year on pellets alone and thats buying them cheap in 1 kg bags from the US

Blimey....I thought mine ate a lot at their size. They are growing really fast and I pile in the food.:D

is tilapia very messy?

I haven't found it to be messy.

I feed my rays tilapia, shrimp, squid, scallops, mysid shrimp, and worms (red wrigglers). Rotate each day, with tilapia the main meal every other day.
The mysid shrimp are feed maybe once a week, and worms are fed rarely. Only 2 of my rays really like the worms. Red wrigglers do have a strong odor, maybe that is why they don't all like them. This fall I may try Canadian or European nightcrawlers.
Sometimes I seine up lots of silversides and sand shrimp for work and will bring home some fresh meat for my rays.

Krill, Live Ghost shrimp, black worms and Night crawlers. I change it up everyday to give them a variety. I feed small amounts twice a day. Rays will eat as much as you put in. Fatten them up at first. when there tail looks thicker, then they have stored fat to get nutrients from. then you can go to either one a day or even every other day. but depends on your liking. As long as they have stored fat, then they will be fine. But keep an eye out to make sure they, if you have more than one, are all eating and storing fat. If one is not, you will need to sep till it gets a little bigger and fatter so it doesnt starve or not get food due to the others might be getting it first.

Tilapia seems to be about the least messy of the fish fillets I've tried. Have tried salmon, whiting, pollock, tilapia, and catfish. Catfish did NOT go over well, I don't think they ate any. The other kinds of fish they just make a mess of. Hard to beat the price of pollock though.

Frozen Squid, Frozen Shark Formula, Frozen Carnivore by Omega, raw frozen squid, night crawlers. Have tried the Massivore delite pellets cant him to eat them yet. Waiting to get another ray for feeding pellets.
