What is one thoughts on this?

I would be fine if its a smaller tank. The glass used on 30s and smaller is way thick enough even after some etching (which should not thin the glass much at all...but may cause a point for failure IE place for a crack to start) Or you could always tape up the rest of the tank and give it a light sand blasting for a cool frosted look!

yep.....do a 10gal first and double the back for bigger tanks. i think I'll look nice.

Im not sure you ment to compliment yourself there or not

Should be cool if you try it post some pics!

don't acid etch IMO just mask a design into the glas and medie blast it it will do the same in terms of a permint image. And as for integerty of the glass I don't think you would remove enough glass to be worried about it. and If you are do it on a small tank first. Remeber 10gals can be picked up for free if you know the right ppl. or $8 at most pet stores. my g/fs dad has a small media blaster once he gets media for it I might try this sounds sweet .

When I was in school (not that long ago i'm only 22) we had a guy in shop class that build a coffee table and he had the glass insert sand blasted. it came out really nice with a decent amount of detail. I think the hard part would be getting it masked up good enough so that the sand doesn't move the masking tape before you're done.

Understood.....Seeing that I live in the darn boonies.....Very difficult for me to get one done like this-etching is the route I would like to go if it can be done......
