What is the smartest CA/SA cichlid? In your opinion??

I know a lot of people say Oscars, but maybe that's just because they're so common and so many people own them. I've never seen anything in an oscar that makes them exceptional in comparison to other cichlids. My Texas Cichlids are pretty smart.

IMO,

1. Oscar
2. Midas
3. Green Terror (Saum)

I think convicts are the smartest fish, and how are Oscars smart? I thought they are the dumbest fish with no fighting strategies.

How does fighting contribute to being smart? If so my Midas would have been the smartest fish out there. :D He was really interactive and would glass bang at anyone besides me.

I'm afraid I haven't kept enoguh cichlids to say who's the smartest.

I know both My O's recognize when I go for their food container. but tiny my albino red can miss a shrimp right in front of her face.

My JD's similarlay recongnize their food container, but then again I did see the larger one taste the stream of poop coming out of my chocolate pleco. he tasted and didn't like it but still thought of it as food.

now obviously there is instinct and survival skills that play a factor but intillect is hard to attribute when theres no obsevance of real hunting or real survival instincts. typically intellect of cichlids would have to then be measured in the wild cousins of our fish.

Sure my O's go after feeders but then again I am placing the feeder into a walled tank without possibility for escape. And there are no predators coming after my O's they do hide when they see the net but clever swimming cannot really be inturpreted as there is no possibility to lose me when swimming away.

so idk.

Nicaraguense
It has convinced dovii in the wild, to let it guard the doviis eggs (while the dovii hunts), and in return, the dovii eats every nematoplus in sight (nematopus compete with the nic for territory), leaving an open nesting area for the nicaraguense.
Now that's a strateegery and smarts.
That's insane!!!!:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2:WHOA::headbang2
