What makes the water come back up into the aquarium though? Will I need a pump or something?

Well, typically, if the guy thats selling you the tank has had it up and running, hell have a pump. If not, than yes, youll need to buy a pump. There are tons of different choices when it comes to these, depending on your $$$ situation. You can get something sufficient for around $100 or something superior and that will last for 10+ yrs for under $300.

lol no beating up the fish with nets......when I worked at petsmart I had this crazy lady come in and tell me she flushed her live fish down the toilet because it was mean.......like a small gourami or molly or something like that.....I wanted to jam her head in the toilet......some fish owners just shouldn't BE fish owners.....

I have a hot tub pump made by STA-RITE but it's 240volt. It's 160 gallons/minute, but I can turn it on low which is 80 gallons a minute.

Is that too much filtration? lol

female, males dont have the stripe from the eye to caudal peduncle
(i think)

I was thinking the same thing after looking at everyones pictures. My fish looks like everyone elses female fish, especially with those 3 eye stripes.

Maybe it's a male and will grow out of them? I tried to vent him/her, but she was not having any of it. If her fins would have been hands I would have seen a middle finger.

dont have a clue what the 240 volt difference would make.

but @80 gallons a minute, thats 4800 an hr, which is probably too much, depending on how far below the tank the pump is.

At 4800 an hr, thats 32x turnover (on a 150 gallon tank), which is way overkill. Again, check the head on the pump and see what it says for different lengths below the tank because the flow weakens the further below the tank the pump gets.

Typically, 5 to 10 times turnover is good. There are those that like less but I prefer as close to 10x as possible.

read this as well for an explanation of the terms and sizing a pump to your tank:

maybe you could find someone on here in your area that could help you, that tank sounds great
