WHAT IS THIS FISH???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, I'm gonna need more help. I have a transaction going through an a 3 month old aquarium. I have no idea what this crap means and I won't want to ask the seller because he'll think I'm a 'tard and jack up my price.

It is a 150 gallon all-glass Oceanic with dual overflows, a 40Gal sump, and a wooden stand & hood.

What is dual overflows and a sump? Do they leak? Is my jag gonna be happy with this? Also, where does one put a tank like this? I have an office or a spare bedroom but I like him where I can see them swim from my couch (walking somewhere defeats the purpose of relaxation for me). How big of a filter will I need and heater?

you r an idiot, if u only like watching them swim then why r u on this site???????? just curious?

I find the fact that you are calling someone an idiot while using incredibly poor grammar absolutely hysterical. For future reference, I think a couple more question marks would really help to articulate your point. Just a little something I noticed...

Oceanic is a brand, dual overflows are usually in the corners and are where the water overflows into and goes down into the sump, forced by the water level, pump pressure and gravity.

Your Jag would love it, especially with a gf or some other tankmates. Depending on the footprint of the 150 and your available space, you can put it in the same place as your current tank.

The sump is the filter. The water goes from the overflows into tubes that go down into the sump, through filter pads and usually over bio-balls and then through a sponge that holds the beneficial bacteria, then back out through the front and the pump shoots it back up into the tank. I use 1 heater in the sump for a 265 gallon, but I read on here often that some have 2 heaters and cant get their temp up, so Id say its a trial process.

Hope that helps!

lol..........nice....if this is what life comes down to then awesome! BTW...I used to work at PetSmart....they would sell, Red Devils, Midas, AND Jags......what a NIGHTMARE for the beginning fish hobbiest.....seriously what a joke.....esp for the associates that work there and have no idea what the little 1" cuties turn into.......

Oh and Donny, I have 4 tanks and have been keeping fish for only a couple of years and still don't know as much as I'd like.....like how a sump and overflow works......I don't have any so I don't know......this is how you learn.....by screwing up sometimes.......not that you screwed up.....but you were poorly informed about the JAG...

This helps so much! Thanks! What makes the water come back up into the aquarium though? Will I need a pump or something? Sorry if this question is redundant or if I'm just not getting it. I know almost nothing about aquariums larger than 55 gallon :(

I'm just glad I'm figuring out which questions to ask. It was pretty frustrating when I didn't even know what the problem was, what the right question to ask was, and obviously no idea about a solution. Especially having to watch my wife get pissed at the jag picking on the catfish and stick her arm in my tank and attempt beating him with the fish net. Effin dysfunctional.
