lol, this just made my night! Yes it's jag, it looks male. I'll post pics of what mine did in a minute, and he/she is only about 5 inches!
 
Sorry for the crappy quality, my son decided to break the zoom on my cam, so the phone is all I got. Notice the mountains of gravel and the glass bottom on the tank, lol.

Thanks for helping me identify it. Right now, he's only 1 of two fish in my 55 gallon. They were both about an inch long two years ago. They need a bigger tank, so I've been searching craigslist for a 125 or so.

I don't think he's necessarily ugly, he just drives me crazy with his uprooting, gravel moving, and catfish eating personality. Sometimes he has a nice red/purple tint and he looks not too bad.

Wow, thats almost a twin of my fish! Looks about the same size too.

Do you ever feed him crickets? Sometimes I'll buy some and toss a few in there. My demon hits him off the water like a bass hitting a plug. It's amusing.

Don't worry man I've got 19 tanks setup too and I just like watching my fish swim too. That other guy's the real idiot. At least you're trying to learn, that's all that matters is you want the best for your fish. You're right about needing a bigger tank and dealing with a monster fish. Jag's are known for that LOL.
