What is your cleaning/water change routine and how long does it take you?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it is what it is lol I did a WC on 2 of my 29g fry tanks last night , but I had to separate and move fry according to size and species so it ended up taking a few hours for everything. Like I said, it depends how much work there is to actually be done. Siphoning out water and no vacuuming only takes about 30 minutes per tank , maybe less depending on size. I'm also very thorough and tedious with things too

30mins per tank? are you using a straw to do wc or something? lol
i finish my 6x3 cleaning and wc in like 10-15mins lol and i do fin level
wc... add another 5-7 mins to clean out filters. wth are you doing that
its taking that long lol

Lmao what are you using or doing to siphon out the water so fast?
I use that phython siphon and it takes forever too siphon out water which is most of my time in my water changes

throw a pump in to drain the tank to fin level and while it's draining
i scrub the tank and do spot vac since i have it bare bottom i dont
have much to do vac wise. on some tanks i just open a valve to
drain the tank; quick and simple. drain, scrub, spot vac, fill and done.

Fill time is what takes the longest. Unless u got a fire hose ur limited to ur water pressure from the tap. Even at full blast fillin a couple hundred gallons is gonna take a while.

I always fill with a couple buckets, while one is being taken to the tank the other is being filled with water.

I currently only have my 29 and 10 setup. I keep a 55 gallon barrel in the closet of the room that is heated and has a powerhead running in it. I usually do about 95% every Wednesday and weekend. I pump the tank water out the window and then pump new water into the tanks. If I skip refilling the barrel until another day, the whole process only takes about 15-20 minutes. If I refill the barrel then it's closer to 35-40 minutes.

I currently use a garden hose and run it from my front door faucet back to the barrel. The part that adds so much time is running the hose back and then draining and coiling it back up. I don't want to have stagnant water, nor frozen water inside the hose.

My plan is to run a garden hose from my washer cold line up through the ceiling and down into the small closet. I will then put a valve on the end of the hose so that I can simply turn the valve on right there and not have to worry about uncoiling and coiling the hose. That will make it even easier.

use a hyrdoponic pump connected to a hose with another smaler hose conected the otherend and use it like a hoover :$

What model / make hydroponic pump? I've been looking for a cheap utility pump, or "march pump" to move water, maybe pump out a sump, etc. Something small, quick to set up, with a long extension cord, too. Variable output maybe?

I might rig up a pump to vacuum through a sock so I can vacuum solids off the tank floor, and the water output go right back in the same tank -- so I can vacuum without changing water.

Maxijet 1000 take it down to your local diy store and get a hose that plugs on and cut a bit off to the other side can empty my 300l in like 20 mins
You can simply get two and fill and empty same time lol
Replacing water is best
