What is your policy on tipping wait staff?

here's my question piscine, how can the non tippers and low tippers get bad service when the server doesn't know what kind of tip they're going to get until after it's too late? i'd imagine low and no tippers don't go out to eat often and sure as heck don't frequent the same place

For all i know, i may be prejudged and given bad service and have every right to low tip in the first place. i'm suppose to get a worthy reputation with said server before i get good service?

As a former food service employee, I learned to remember the bad tippers and make sure the bussers know to leave my tables dirty when they were scheduled to show up. They would always get the noob-servers who didn't know any better. So yes, their service sucked because of their tips. Low & no-tippers do frequent the same places over and over sometimes....Just like regular people do. lmao They often take double the time, require twice the refills, and expect it twice as fast.

you should be doing your job the same regardless of tip. i get that you may wanna put extra effort into the good tippers.

but the low tippers get sucky service? that ain't right. at least give them regular service but why put in the effort to give them bad service?

See, that's the ugly side of tipping. It turns servers into vindictive employees. There's no reason to purposely give somebody bad service just because you didn't like their tip, which may I add is completely and totally optional, and should not, in no way shape or form influence the service you provide. I understand we're human and human emotions take over, but it isn't right. That's why service is so crappy in this country to begin with. You shouldn't have to pay somebody to give you good service when you're already paying for the product.

That is all :)

When I feel that a server is giving me horrible service on purpose while I can see that they are giving other customers more attention then that's when I usually have a chat with the manager after my meal, and also usually contact the parent company(if it's a chain)through the website. I have gotten more than one employee fired for their innapropriate attitude and actions.

eh, the sense of entitlement is disgusting. makes me want to tip even less now

you know you actually hurt your profession anyways? that customer you gave bad service to will now bad mouth your restaurant and less people who might've been great tippers will go there. talk about shooting yourself in a foot for holding a grudge

Yup, I mentioned the same thing a few pages ago:

What really gets me though, is the sense of entitlement from people in these service type jobs. I don't care if you're just 'trying to survive'. I must have missed the part where that was any of my problem. If it's that bad, go find another job.

lol, piscine kinda dug himself a hole here

either that or we're getting trolled. he's pulling the strings on our reactions to keep his thread bumping. piscine you mad genius. or am i overestimating you?
