The fam took me to Golden Corral for my birthday and the bill came to about fifty bucks.I left a four dollar tip,how was that?

Do they do anything besides seat you and bring you drinks? I wouldn't have tipped for that.

Well she did try to keep us supplied with fresh napkins and soft drinks.
that's funny because after a great expensive meal with top notch service i leave a $2 tip and do this dance while moonwalking to the exit and yell out, "haha, gotcha! that's all you get! oh yea! that's all you get!" repeatedly until i enter my car and peel off like a boss

I remember liking that song when it came out....now I really feel old.

I don't go to church & I don't give much to charity. But I over tip & tip everybody unless the service is really bad.

I'd give you the tip back, if you left one, just to see you doing that goofy dance while walking to your car.

it's very different depending on the country. Servers here (USA) usually have reduced minimum wage because the federal standards take into account the fact that we make tips. I make a little over 5 an hour. But tipping in America is customary and the standard is around 20%. I usually tip at least that much, but wont hesitate to reduce or increase based on the performance of the server. If the food is bad or late, I'll rarely tell anyone but see if its better next time (still tipping the server since if its not their fault and they handle the situation well). It's our job, but we wouldnt do it for the hourly wages--tipping is a must here, unless the service is terrible. I even tip well at Asian restaurants where they have a very "un-american" waiting style: minimal dialogue, minimal questions, get the order/deliver/refills/reconciliation of the check.

Not tipping in USA is like a machinist getting paid 1/4 of their salary just because they should be expected to do their daily work "since its their job."

if i learned anything from this thread it's that the resturant business is hiring the wrong people. people act like it's such a burden to be nice and bus tables and deliver food.
