What kind of Flowerhorn do I have?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow that is very interesting information, I catch hybrids from time to time when I’m fishing. I’m in Wisconsin so we don’t have any cichlids up here, but a common occurrence is a muskellunge mating with a northern pike or vice versa. Their offspring are called Tiger Muskie, very beautiful fish, my mom caught one last year it was just about 50”.
Star is really pretty. It would be nice having such pretty fish in a tiny size, tank upgrades can be killer.
Yeah I got a small pond near by I got to. The place is loaded with pumpkinseed x green sunfish hybrids. Catch almost as many as I do pure bloods there. Granted the place is isolated from other bodies of water so no new Gene's being brought in.

it will be interesting to see what happens in the long run there. You could introduce some new blood if things go bad, or take to your local DNR management…. They may help or give permission to do things to the fish population, my DNR is really friendly about that stuff in Wisconsin

I have a small pond by me, it has purebred bluegill in it. I’ll post a pic. Where you from? Panfishes are different from all over the country. In northern Wisconsin at least that I know we have 2 bluegill and 1 pumpkinseed
I kept one as a pet for awhile78F50A97-F5F2-4BBE-8369-DB6CA48F0C22.png

I'm from South Dakota, and as for the fish situation it doesn't look like they are willing to do anything about it since it's so isolated. Allot of ppl actually go there just to catch em since they grow so fast/large. They essentially look like a pumpkin seed with a larger mouth, I'll post some pics of the ones I've caught. It's a bit easier to notice on the larger specimens. They seem to have become the dominant specie in that pond in just a lil over a year, atleast I only started noticing em just a couple years ago and they were rare then, at this point it's almost all that ya catch besides bluegill.

Pumpkinseed x Green sunfish. I’ve always wanted to keep either that hybrid or bluegill x green sunfish as a wetpet.

They get rather aggressive, almost as bad as convicts and the like. Had some for most of the winter untill the largest one just started killing everyone left and right just to eventually jump out itself. Only downside to their aggression is that as ya can see they can get quite beefy in size, caught em over a pound on many occasions, so they can deal some damage if they really feel like it. Granted as a solo wet pet they should be fine.

Oh I know these guys are bastards. Green sunfish and green sunfish hybrids live up too many of the most aggressive Central Americans. Solo wetpet setup in 75-125 would be the move. Your right, they definitely don’t mix.

I think it's mostly due to the green sunfish Gene's, definitely has "small dog" syndrome goin on lol. It's like putting the brain of a Chihuahua into a Lab body. In the end ya end up with a fish with a nasty attitude and the size to back it up.
