What lights for a 6ft tank does everyone use?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've been trying to decide this for months. The footprint on my tank is 72"x36" so I've been thinking that I will need 2 rows for the 36" depth front to back. I like the programmability of the new Current Satellite pro plus - 4 x 36" fixtures ~$1000. I also like the Aqua Illumination Hydras. The are some "likely used" fixtures around. If I shop hard I think 3 would cost ~$1000 as well. The beams work 72" looks like a decent interim solution and only about $300 for 2 - but has 3 settings and a timer but not programmable features like fading, cloud cover etc. and fewer lumens. I have Geophagus (therefore no plants!) along with rays, Jardini, pbass and a few oddballs. Any alternatives I'm not considering?

For pricing, I think the marineland lights are a bang for the buck... Try them and if they don't work return them.....
