What makes fishkeeping SO hard?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I been through it for 40 years. And you know what I say "WHO CARES". I do as I please not to please someone else. I get this from my other passion my guitars. I can't understand how anyone can sit and watch an entire baseball game or golf tourney on the tube and get excited about it but to each his own. Now let me go feed my plecos and love watching them .LOL

yeah not everyone gets it. I have been told I spend more time on my fish then with my husband. Thats not ture sure there were times I was dealing with problems and I was spending extra time on the fish. Now things all good so I have my time back. My husband is the one that got me back in the hobby I warned him. He said a fish tank would look good there. I said you have no idea what you are about to start by asking for a fish tank. HAHA .

I don't find anyone giving me a hard time about keeping fish. Everyone that sees my tanks always says how nice they look and are impressed. People at work have told me they would like to keep fish. They like the idea but not the work it takes to keep to keep a good tank.

You have a suport group here so its all good.

I don't expect everyone to enjoy fishkeeping nearly as much as I do. I just make sure that the fish aren't keeping me. I like caring for my fish and perfecting their tank set ups. It's a pleasure to watch them grow, interact, and breed. It's a hobby that my wife and kids respect because they know how much it means to me. I feel the same way about their hobbies. It's mutual respect. I do other things as well with my time. I don't live my life around my fish. But at the same time they are a part of my everyday life. Some of my friends don't get it. They don't see the attraction. Many of them stopped fishkeeping with their first goldfish! I don't let them get me down. It's a positive outlet and joy for me. I love it and that's all that matters.

I don't have any friends that are into fish keeping as much as I am , however I did have to take a break for a few years and did not have any tanks going .... what a long couple years, but then after me and my wife got married she bought me a 50 gallon tank as a present and a 2 JD's and a common pleco ... for no reason she said that she thought that I would like to get a tank going again .... and she has continued to buy me more tanks ... now I have a total of 4 tanks and one small 250 gallon pond the smallest tank I have is a 10 gallon and the largest is 320 gallons, (the 320 is not set up atm) but she bought them all for me , and I should also say she has never owned any fish before not even a gold fish .... and she is actually just as into fish as I am now , she is talking about when its time for me to get a bigger tank she wants to set the 320 up with fish of her own 8)

all my friends dont understand when i get a new fish how excited i am to have a fish new to my tank they think its a waste of money and some girls at my school think that im weird but i know that i can make it through the day when i think of my fish hahha lol but still i cant talk about fish or ill sound lik a know it all and theyll be like thats wonderful no one cares but there is only one friend that likes fish along as me. having fish is like being a boy scout i cant tell anyone.

they also make fun of me when i feel bad when a fish dies so ya thats my life about my hobby:(

Most of my friends are out buying new quads/ski-doos every other year. My wife likes it that I would rather spend the time with the fish and has even given in to the 500g that I've been planning for a while.

My best friend likes my fish and I've even gotten her a little bit interested in fishkeeping (she might get a ten gallon lol) My grandma supports my love for this hobby even though it is expensive sometimes. I notice that when I talk about my fish at school, some people just don't understand and they can be really nasty about it. They give me the snobbish looks a lot.. I like to watch my teacher's fish and the people in the class look at me weird. Oh well, it makes me happy!
