In the past,cropping and docking where two terms for the same thing,but over the years it has become where cropping is making it so that the ear stands up straight and docking is complete or near complete removal of the outer ear and/or the tail.

I would beware taking that dog home as the only reason Ive ever seen a pit bulls ears docked is so that a rival dog (in a fight) cannot grab hold of the ear.

It may be that,like cropping,this is done just for looks in some places but I personally have never seen a pit with docked ears that wasn't used for fighting.(docked mind you,not cropped)

This is coming from a pit bull breeder of 14 years.Its sad but I wouldn't take that dog home for the life of me,can anybody say "Liability"?

There are hundreds of Pitbulls running around the streets of Oakland these days. Everyone let's them go because they don't want them anymore, then they go get rottweilers. I figure when rots fall out of favor there'll be tons of them running around as well.

im not even going to read all this, im just going to say cutting dogs ears or tails is insane! It is like cutting off your ankle because it looks cool!

Not really the same thing.. more comparable to circumcisin(sp?) in humans/babys.. It's done mainly for traditional/health reasons and usually done when very young.

There is no mobility lost like when you cut someones ankle off.

I still say if there are no bite scars and after spending sometime with him you feel you love him that bad then go ahead. As long as you can provide him a home. I believe almost any dog is curable of it's ailments, and if nothing else call cesear.. lol

I mean, Thomas Jefferson liked watching roosters kill each other. Dogs live outside in extreme painfully hot, cold or wet weather and we raise cows in cages for food. We are sending people to other planets because we ruined this one fast. We dumped tires in our ocean and dig holes in mountains to bury nuclear waste. If a camel, dog, cat, or horse is born its a slave to humans. And then we cut their limbs off.

Most animals are sent there, because there owners move, or just dont want them anymore. Its sad ... Why pay 100$'s for a dog when you can get one just as good or better from the shelters?

Most dogs tails get cut, because they get so long that when wagged, they can possibly hit something and brake... But in some cases they are cut off for fighting ( which i dont agree with )

these days fighting or no fighting, some owners still crop their dogs ears. It's all for looks. Just because you see the dogs ears cropped dont jump to say it's a dangerous fighting dog. Real dog lovers and keepers know better than that.
Boxers, great danes, cane corsal, dobermans, ect. get their ears cropped for looks too. Yes they don't like it. But theirs owners, the ones who go to work to feed them, take them to doctors, take them for walks, buy them toys and treats, raise and care for them want them to get it cropped.
Yeah it sucks just one painful time, but most dogs live better lives than their owners because they dont have a care in the world when their owners provide for them.
I wish someone would chop my ears off and care for me the way most of these dogs get cared for.

Im half way getting this dog. I have to bring the puppy of this house which dont belong to me to introduce to him. I rent with a from friend and his dog was here first. He said okay if I want the dog. The other half to go through is planning for the long future of housing this dog incase I move. Most houses for rent dont allow pets.

I know a few ppl that ate dogs or still would eat dogs. They don't have no love for them and see them as meat.

But you might offend Chinese ppl who love dogs.
