What should i do with my Oscar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm very lucky with my LFS taking in Oscars for whatever reason and rehoming them.
The fish never stay for very long and get proper housing.
To get a couple i got offered to take 5 Oscars and return 3 after a pair had established.
But the guy is a fishlover himself, not just a salesman!

Ya know i'm thinking Oscar stuffed with crab meat might save alot of talapia. Ok only kidding, keep him for a while grow him out and sell him in a few months or just give him back to the LFS. Get some Angles or Discus perfict for a 55 long term. You could set up a nice comunity tank with plants there are many options with a 55, Unfortunatly an Oscar isn't one of them.

your lucky... my lfs is always getting oscars from owners who cant take care of em anymore and they look so beat up, i feel so sorry for those guys. i think oscars are the most abused fish in fish keeping. :irked:

Take him back to the store.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol, I'm glad you cleared that up, I was mildly concerned for a moment...
You know they actually caught and released oscars in several places in the amazon that they were not native to because their meat is realy savory and it is a staple of the locals....

Ok WTF I was going to leave it alone in the other thread but you are worried about a fish that gets 16" out growing a 55 gallon, but you said you have a RTC that will grow to be at least 3' in the 55 and you are not concerned with that?:screwy:

Feed him to the RTC, it will be better for him then going back to an LFS. Only to have a customer re-purchase him for their 20 gal community tank...:nilly::naughty::nilly:

I have an LFS near me full of 9"+ Oscars that came in as rescues. The owner stated if he didn't take them when they where brought in. The customers would just leave them outside the store to perish. He's found many an Oscar and Pacu in the adjoining field......

An oscar could do ok for awhile in a 55g Sell him, give him away BUT DO NOT RELEASE HIM INTO THE WILD THANKS
