Ok, so I am the Aquatics Specialist at my local Petco. Tomorrow is Fish Day :) I love thursdays lol. Anyway, tomorrow is the day I place my order for my fish. This is the company we order through www.segrestfarms.com . I want to order some different cichlids, and I was hoping you guys could give me some suggestions on what I could order. Not everything on that site is available at all times, but a good bit of them are. I figure I shouldn't order anything that gets to be too large, because most of the cichlid people I get in my store have 29g to 75g tanks. Also, 75g is the biggest that we sell, so I should stick with fish that will be ok in tanks up to 75g. We currently have the normal Electric Blues, Yellow Labs, and Oscars that you find in a typical fish department. I also have some Livingstonii, JDs, Blood Parrots, and some GT and Texas. Oh, and I also have a few Red Chromides (I know that they are not always called that, but that is what they are called by Segrest :)). Um, I think that's it other than the "Assorted" blend the send us of Africans. So, anyway, if you guys have any suggestions of what I should order, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys! I am still kinda new to all of the different sorts of Cichlids, but I am learning :)

Um...wouldn't that get a little large for a 75g tank? lol I actually considered that...but I don't want to end up with it not being sold and then having a monster fish with nowhere to put him :)

he listens well.

im a team lead at my petco, used to be the aquatics specialist. we just converted our coral tanks to a cichlid/oddball section. gold rams, ropefish, senegal bichirs, small puffers, and the flouders. they are selling like crazy.

my manager decided to do an order on his own to "fill" it up. we now have clown knives, fw morays, tsns and pacu. i told him he failed, and to never order again.

That's really cool. We only have two saltwater columns, so that isn't going to happen for us lol. My manager doesn't order anything different without me asking for it :) Luckily...

You'll have the most badarse Petco in the U.S. of A if you stock Festae, Trimaculatus, Motaguense and Grammodes (in that order if you can't do all of them). There were a few others on that stocklist that I like but lets start with those. Any one of them could be a single fish in a 75 gallon. Your customers could even do a pair if they're willing to keep a divider handy to put in when necessary. You guys should order a few 135 gallon tanks. Don't you think they would sell? I don't know how hardcore fish people your customers are but if they buy any of these fish and grow them into adulthood, they will prolly go hardcore MFK'er. You really get addicted to this hobby when you love your fish.

now here is a guy that we should admire working at a lfs. checking with all of use because he is thinking in advance nice job man wish i had a guy like you around me

Thanks for the info :) I will look into those. Only thing is, most of the people I get in my store don't just want a single fish lol. They are all about overstocking the crap out of their tanks :irked:. I asked my manager about ordering 30g long because I had heard so many people compaining on here that Petco and Petsmart didn't carry them. She said we couldn't...And as far as the 135g ones go, I don't think we have room to display them anywhere lol. We are a fairly small store.
