Sounds like a pain in the ... And thats about once a month?
Does it take them long to 'recover' ? If I mess around in my Oscar's tank, he gets a little stressed i.e. dramatic (starts floating weird, color fades).. He's always fine about 10 min later though.
I actually let my wife pick the 135, but I really had to sell the taller, shorter tank not looking as good. She liked the idea of a lower longer tank, she just didnt realize it also meant bigger so we both wonTo all: Tonight im going to start to warm up my wife to the idea!! (wish me luck)
They stress out for about 5 minutes and then immediately start breeding again. lol. Ive recently moved my filter intakes as low in the tank as I can get them and added a pretty decent sized Syno to try to help out. We'll see if it makes a difference. It should since im already finding half a dozen or so in the filters when I do maintenance.

Yeah ive been reading about Synodontis' and they seem to do a good job! How often do you clean your filters to prevent decay of the dead fry?
I have vowed to build a wet/dry filter for my next tank.. No real good reason other than it seems like a cool project.. I have 2 Fluval 405's running in my other 90 gal and i really like them..
The fry are always alive because the Rena's have top mounted motors. There is a small sediment trap in the bottom of the filters and I always find fish hanging out in there....haven't found a dead one yet
