What to do with a fish thats getting way to big?

If you use conditioner, it will most likely make you very sick.

How about killing it (quickly and humanely), and feeding pieces of it to your carnivorous fish?

I hate to agree with killing a fish because that's basically admitting failure as a fishkeeper. But if he hasn't gone to someone or a zoo within a year, and you can't get a 1000 gallon tank running, it might truly be the only viable option. Might as well feed it to your other fish as suggested.

This is why I still don't understand why they are sold to the general public. They should be a special order item like the oddball doradids and other large catfish.

i had a dream that i was cooking a RTC, so i say eat it..or donate it to a soup kitchen, they'll eat it

I actually had the same problem last year my pacu was a little over a foot and I ended up having to give him away to a local fish store. I would come in from time to time to visit him and one day they told me he was sold to someone who had a large indoor pond and I was pretty happy about that.

Thats weird that the zoo and aquirium wouldnt take it. One of my old silvers is over three feet. And lives in the boston aqauirium. I would say cut its head of like we do to the fish we ketch fishing. Filet and skin it cut it up into small peices freeze it. And feed it to your other fish. Cant get much better fish food then that if you have been trying to get rid of it for this long and no one will take it. What else can you really do with it. I mean even if you post it on here for free if some one pays for shipping how could you being a regular hobbyist not a vendor. Ship such a large fish. I mean maybe you could but i couldn't. Good luck with your decision it would break my heart to kill one of my fish. I love my fish but if you cant hose it any more and cant get rid of it. There really isnt any other choice in my opinion.
