What type of Sev is this?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My old Turq had blue in the face, but not unrealistic obviously tweaked neon blue like the original picture, mine didnt have the marine fish like yellow belly or the over enchanced Turq colour etc

I stand by my original statement that made a 44 year old man cry like a 4 year old girl, and that is, the original picture is a basic photoshop.

Very basic, you could just put it in photoshop, play with the vibrance tool, and boom, done in 2 mins.

Heros efasciatus are highly variable in color as I stated earlier I've never seen any with that intense yellow belly coloration. If you have a membership to The Cichlid Room Companion search Heros efasciatus and the one pictured titled "Pair in the aquarium" by Don Danko is the "spitting image" of what my stock looked like. Link provided if you have a membership.

If you don't have a membership to CRC here is a link I found that is pretty close to the photo on CRC and looks to be close to the TS I use to have. The ones pictured on CRC are spawning and in breeding dress, so they are light up. I'd like to share that when I Googled "Heros efasciatus" lots of images came up that weren't even close to the real deal, viewers beware.

I cannot speak to photoshop nor does it make a difference. Frankly, HybridGS this constant droning on about Photoshop, making people crying, and so on is very annoying and isn't adding to the thread.
If it will help you feel better, I'll collapse and agree you're correct on all levels about everything you said? Now you've been acknowledged please move on.

I have seen something similar before, "spotted severum."

Here's a link to the site I frequent to check for info: http://seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Heros&species=notatus&id=804
It has a bluish face right?

It looks like it's from a specific area, "Endemic to the Rio Negro basin, Brazil," as oppose to the general Amazon.

I hope it helps. I would like to see yours, :D please PM me a pic!

I should be borrowing a video camera today. If so, I will take a short video tonight and share it with most of you (expecting the delivery of a new FX5 today, so if I get caught up in getting that installed, I may end up sending you guys the video tomorrow). You guys can let me know what you think. I now think what I have is the "raspberry" severum that Andrew alluded to, but for whatever reason, mine's still seems to have a more uniform bluish body... not just face. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what you all think.

Sorry everyone... I keep forgetting the stupid video camera at work, and I didn't go in today... took today off so I could have a 3 day weekend for my birthday.

I will try not to forget the dang video camera on Monday. Again... my bad!

Okay. I finally took the video. Very sorry, folks... I am as forgetfull as they come, and I repeatedly kept forgetting the video camera at work. That said, I feel it is rather anti-climatic... for whatever reason, the color is washed out, so it is tough for me to really prove anything concrete with this video, sadly. I dunno... it could just be my poor skill at shooting video, the need for a better camera, the bad spot algae problem lending to a bit of a natural green tint to the tank, or some combination of all of the above. But for whatever reason, the blues and reds on the fish are quite washed out.

Nonetheless, this is the fish, and it is all blue, with red spots/speckles. Anyone who lives near me in Waldorf, MD who is way better at shooting video than I am and/or has better equipment, you are more than welcome to come to my house and see the fish, and shoot it, for yourself. All said, without further ado (and yes... those that know how to inbed the video, please feel free to lend the assist... it's appreciated!)...

I have a similar severum about 2 years old atm. no yellow belly .
Local fish store told me it was redline severum I bought 2 abount 1.5 - 2inch.
They are the left and right severum. I think the one on the left is female much more greenish yellow.
