Even YOU would be sick of it if you had to carry buckets from the bathroom then find the aqua salt then the fish care blue then the chlorine killer and make sure you don't over dose them. Mum loves the guppies and they keep dieing. So you like one and the next day its dead. I understand why she doesn't like them. We are already pretty tight on money so.....
Sorry that I didn't read the thread more before my first comment. I have a 60 gallon and 20 gallon tank running right now. I have a python (a siphon that hooks up to your sink) but ever since I've moved into this new house the well water here is discolored and tests bad. I have to load up 4 5 gallon buckets into my car and get water from a pet store, then load up the full buckets and drag them into and out of my house for water changes. I do them weekly. It sucks but I love my fish and I honestly don't trust anyone else with them so they moved with me from Indiana to south Florida.
My little sister is 12 and I'm starting her off with a 10 gallon and she has been doing her water changes regularly with buckets all by herself. But my family is pretty pet friendly. If you are under a roof that isn't too happy about your fish wants then maybe its best to decide that you are either going to do it 100% right or don't do it at all. Even if you care dearly for your fish it may be best that you keep what you have and let other fish go to people who have the resources to care for them. I know it's hard, I know it's not any fun. Your mom probably has a lot to do on top of taking care of *your* fish. Maybe if you showed her that you can take care of what you have she'd let you have more.
I've worked at pet stores and the reason the 'stupid man' tells you how big a fish gets is to detour people from buying fish that they may not be able to properly care for. Start by doing all of the work to care for what you have and then go from there. And I would absolutely toss that pond liner or return it if possible.
