I think I need some advice on a nice handgun to carry. I've got a shotgun in the house, but I feel more and more like I need to get a handgun before regulations are tightened.

I'd like to get an affordable 9mm since I could take it to the range and shoot it inexpensively.

What would you suggest? Sorry for the slight derail.

No derail, go for it man!

Well 9mm IMO is an excellent choice for carry and plinking! There are plenty options for you, being a big guy you wont have to settle for a micro compact to go completely concealed.

The XD series are GREAT handguns as they are really safe, very reliable, huge fan base (ie forums and aftermarket) and pretty cheap too!

The best thing is to go to your local shop and handle and ASK questions. For a forum, check out AR15.com. You cant go wrong there.

That's understandable. but From the few Ps90s and Fs2000s I have seen you are looking at close to 2k after taxes for the base gun. and around here at least you can't even get the base Ps90 with the 50 rd clip you have to buy that extra for like 50 bucks. Good choice though. Are you a tall guy? I am 6'1" And the Ps90 is not comfortable at all to hold b/c its extremly short stock. It's very hard to shoulder. But they are made to be used with body armor. On the other hand if you are shorter they may be very nice. Also I know a online place you can get yourself a shor barrel and all that sticks out the end is the flash suppressor. If you have the time to pay the taxes and do the paperwork. the G3 clone would be the second choice of mine.

If you like the 9mm you may also what to look into the 40cal. They are about the same price to shoot. about 25-30 bucks for 100rds. here. I had a S&W sigma but I got rid of it for 3 times what I paid so I couldn't pass that up. I have a buddy that's got a S&W M&P 45 and he loves it but it's more costly to shot. Also a great 40. IMO is a Browning pro 40 I got one for my mom a few years ago and it's a GREAT shooting pistol.

I'd like an FN P90 but 5.7x28mm ammo is expensive and kind of hard to find.

Im 5'8" 190 ( man that sounds fat! lol) so the PS-90 fits nicely, over all the PS-90 is on the bottom of my list though because of its very crappy 5.7 round.

They do have a 5.7 combo you can get I think it's the ps90 with the 5.7 pistol you can get. then you get both a nice pistol and a decent rifle. but I bet it's over 2k.

I did see a sweet knockoff AK at my local dunhams. It's only 600 but it's all blakc no woodgrain. and the stock is one of the floding stocks that folds up over the barrel. It kinda looks like a messed up horseshoe. I thought it was cool and the 7.62 rounds are cheep. and nasty.

The 5.7 round is little more then a .22mag so really they are pointless as they have absolutely no knock down power and are way too $$ to plink with.
