What Were the Most Aggressive Cichlids You've Kept Together...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
9" jaguar 10" jack dempsey, the jd owned the jag. The jag killed more of my fish than any fish I've ever owned, what a bastard. I sold em both afterward, and never bought a jag again, however I do still keep jd's. Very underrated cichlids.

Right now I have 2 JDs, 3 Red Devils, 1 Firemouth and 1 Oscar all living peacefully together. The meanest one out all of them is the firemouth. It keeps flaring at all of the others but it can't really harm them because he's the smallest one out of the group lol. I also tried adding my FH but it was mean to the JDs and kept chasing everyone so I just keep it by itself.

A pair of red devils, a texas, a blackbelt, a red terror, a pair of jd's, a dovii, a pleco, and a balck shark.work out ok when thery were under 4-5 insches then all hell broke lose. Needless to say I sold them all to bunch of friends and swithced to keeping frontosa only.

a pair of oscars growing together ended up snapping at each other. at that point.....do not interfere with their fight.......snaps right at ya.........

...and what was the outcome? Were you successful in housing whatever aggressive species of cichlids you had, or were there severe consequences?

You don't need to limit your response to just your own personal experiences; you can also talk about really aggressive cichlids for some reason kept together at, say, a LFS or a friend's house, etc...
i had 6 flowerhorns and 3 peacocks.. as soon as flowerhorns started to mate, they attacked peacocks and othe flowerhornes.. so had to remove the flowerhorns to the pond.

in my pond i've a collection of chiclids peacefully... about 15 flowerhorns, 10 fire mouths, 2 jags, 15 horned thilapias... the good thing about living in Sri Lanka is u can breed any chiclid due to the fine wether conditions, so u get them at very cheap rates... there was a time we had to spend over 3000 for a flowerhorn of 2", but now we get 6' for lrss than 500, even jags. flowehorns breed like hell and i'm kinda fed as well. hard to breed jags as they want larger space.

you might laugh, but my Psuedo sp. "Kingsezei" is by far the meanist fish I have.... he may be a mbuna from lake malawi, but everytime i put my hand in the tank, he goes white and bites my hand or whips me... he also attacks my net. like i really want in his cave lol.

Haha, yeah, thats my experience too! My male was the meanest fish ever, he was even taken out 58g Mbuna tank and put in my 110g CA tank. He ruled half the CA tank (the other half was ruled by a 8" RD male) with 4 RDs and 6 Black Belts. They where all larger than The King!

I almost feels a bit sorry for letting my Hepsetus odoe eat him.....
