What Were the Most Aggressive Cichlids You've Kept Together...

Convicts and Venustus :)

I was given an 84 gallon tank once without asking what fish were in it...
2- 8-10" Red devils (pair)
3- 6" red devils (offspring)
1- 10" oscar
2- 12-14" pacus
a jack dempsey, a parrot cichlid, a jewel, two big cons and about 40 convict babies. Oh yeah, and two 12" common plecos.
Apparently they'd all grown up up together and were "relatively" peaceful. Although, they all had battlescars.
They've since all been seperated and/or given away, but I never would have thought the RDs would have let everyone else live while they were breeding.

2 male Jags 1 Fem, 1 Red devil, 3 buttokoffi, 1 dovii, pike cichlid and an oscar . All ranged from 8" to about 12". also in the tank were 1 silver arrowana 16-18", 3 bichirs a few plecos and a pacu.
Death toll. 3 Plecos, 1 pike cichlid, Oscar and pacu. Oscar and pacu were intended as dithers and were not expected to survive.

Mating pair of jewel cichlids. Killed similiar sized a Texas, Convict, Leporinus,3 plec, and several more i can't remember.

Had 2 successfull spawns before the over crowding wrecked everything. From that point on I've tried my hardest not to have any mating pairs. Very new to the hobby then. No room then, now... maybe I could hack it. hehe

That is quite a death toll... what does the word dithers mean? Who is the silver Arrowana in with presently? My silver is in with Adonis pleco and synodonis cat and pleco.. no problems..

A Trimac, a RD/Midas, a Jaguar, and a Butticofferi in a 60 gallon tank! This was like 10 years ago and I didn't know any better at the time. Each fish was atleast 8 to 10 inches but they were surpisingly doscile prob due to the fact that is was very crowded in there. Anyhow, this was only for a period of about 2 weeks while I helped someone move.

I was really surprised at the Butticofferi actually. He was the only one that was even somewhat agressive. Maybe because he knew he was an outsider who didn't belong with these New world fish? LOL :screwy:

I'll update my list.
Right now I have a jag 14-15", 12" oscar, and a 13" vieja coexisting peacefully.

Well its not really that high of a death toll considering the time they were all toghether. And most of these fish are considered fish that can only be kept solo. so overall the cohab was pretty successful. If the tank had been larger I think I'd have not lost that many fish. i simply had too many in the tank and some had no where to set up territory. Or the ablity to take teritory from another fish. eventually all the established fish would bounce those fish between each other beating on them.
Dithers meaning that they are distracting fish that take the attention away from other fish that you don't want to get killed. The plecos got killed because they were too stupid or stubborn to realize they shouldnt try and bully their way into the teritory of the larger fish.
the pike cichlid was far too small for the tank. (they always seem bigger at the pet store)

All of these fish have since died. This was a tank I kept about 8 years ago.
