What would be in your favorite fish store?

b.t.w they have an amazing plant section, and I never seen plants sell too well but they use 18 'cascading' tanks and separate lighting per every 3 (in a dark basment!) to sell plants by variety of lowlight medium light and high light, with alot of colourfull dithers, apple snails, blue crayfish etc mixed up in the assorted planted tanks to make it very beautifull. I bet they sell 3 times more plants than all the other LFS in Toronto (picture chicago) just somthing to think about if your going that way

Oh, just a 5,000 gallon tank depicting a natural like environment from lake Tanganyika. Maybe a matching one simulating the Amazon, with Blue Peacock Bass and large armored catfish. What the heck, toss in another of the same size Reef tank and a Fish with live rock only tank.

But in truth, Just a very large but minimalistic clean store, with rows and rows of tanks species tanks, and a half dozen well designed display tanks. Good atmosphere and friendly employees. Work hard to please everyone.

I can only do the best I can working for my friend at his store (2 employees total), but I would do it differently. Check out www.alternativeaquariums.com if you are in Southern Ontario.

WEll this might be a stupid question but do full grown fish really ever sell? I mean isnt part of the draw to having beautiful adult fish in your tank knowing that you raised them from small?

I want to see a store stay in business with degree'd staff, top of the line merchandise, a full selection of rare fish and discount prices.

The best way for that to happen is for people who value those qualities in a fish store...actually buying stuff from them.

That's the problem with trying to set up a fish store that caters to hobbyists. Too many requests and not enough buying...

ok, first off your gonna need tons of rare and cool fish and tons of more main stream fish.oh yeah...you also need a bunch of really hot sales women in bikinis, who know there stuff:naughty:

I have dreamed about this before!!
there would be three sections. Fish for beginners, harder fish and fish for experts. i would then categorize those in to cichlids, tetras, cories, plec etc... then by genus and then those would be categorized by the size of tank required etc... the tanks would vary from 20 gals to 300 gals i would have only one species of fish per tank except for some large show tanks.
i would have back rooms full of backup fish and a personal fishroom that people can visit but not buy the fish. in all it would have about five hundred mostly 55-150 gallon tanks most would be planted and ALL would have plenty of cover for the fish. i would strive to have the widest variety of fish (absolutely NO hybrids and 90 percent of the fish would be f2-f0 the majority being wild. i wouldnt sell tanks under twenty gallons and i wouldnt sell a fish to a unresponsible person. all the staff would be very knowledgable and the prices would be good ther is so much more but i cant remember it now.
bye:D
its all just a dream and most isnt reality but i dare to dream;)
ps i would have tons of apistos pikes and pbasses to name a few

Good looking knowledgeable female fishcatchers would be nice but also distracting,a good selection of books, big display tanks to represent every major collecting area,a section for used equipment and spare parts, these are some of the things my store would have and it would be less than a thirty min. drive from my home,it wouldnt have any color injected fish.

tons of sample tanks. lots of quality cichlids, especially harder to find ones, oddballs, large driftwood, filters w/o their prices jacked up, and knowledgeable hot girls in bikinis selling it all to me :D

stripper poles and hot girls that knew their fish

mine would have monster catfish and little catfish that dont get that big for little fish keepers. every type of bichirs, p bass, every type of gars, awsome cichlids like flowerhorns, oscars, and things like them. o ya and arowanas!!! and it would have a HUGE indoor pond in the center of the place.
