What would you do with this tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My HRP are not nearly that big but I am leaning towards outting then in the tank. Your bigs guys are awesome!

Ah I just saw you above post. Maybe consider the rainbows. They are very cool little fish.

Thanks this is the biggest I’ve had.

That is a gorgeous HRP.
personally I think your tank would be OK for a pair of cryptoheros types like the HRP. I would keep an eye on the male though and a divider on hand. As with any pair of cichlids in a tank this size.
The multispinosa stanzz suggested would be a great idea. Fun fish to keep, pretty and nice personality.

Thanks. I had a large group in my 150g. 3 pairs quickly reproduced even w/ hungry astyanax in the tank.

Kribs go great with tetras. Congo tetras are great for many of the West African stuff, but you could also do alestes or african red eyed tetras. If you want something smaller look at adonis tetras. Lots of cool synodontis catfish, rope fish, killifish, butterflyfish, etc. To round out the community to choose from.

Also, if you like kribs, you might look at all the taeniatus varieties or suboccellatus. They are very similar and amazing colors when spawning. Many smaller jewel species will work well in that sized tank as well.
Excellent suggestion.

What exactly are your water parameters? Lots of SA fish can still work.

My mind goes to krobia xinguensis, laetecara species, or a pair of dwarf pikes like regani.

PH/DH/KH are all basically off the chart...literally.

Got it. Then I’ll go with the cryptoheros or amatitliana species. Thorichthys do best in groups in a large tank. Salvini get too big.

Mix with some wild Mollies or xiphophorus and you got a beautiful tank.

I am going with almost exactly what you suggest. Found a good source for some nice Xiphophorus and Nanolutea.
Nanoluteus is one of my favorites. Great choice. Post pics when they are set up.

Any 'scaping advice from the experts Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 mrrobxc mrrobxc , especially since this is a taller tank? I am going to use PFS and have some nice manzanita branches along with various types of rocks. Any ideas for filling up the top of the tank?

I would use floating horn wort or dwarf water lettuce at the top. You can also use wood pieces coming down from the top corners.

Given that this is a CA tank for nanoluteus, I would use a mixture of sand, fine gravel, and small round pebbles for the substrate. I would feature a couple larger boulders with a few medium and small ones mixed in. All in a similar color scheme that matches the substrate. Of the two larger boulders, I would place them close to each other with the center of the arrangement just right of center for the golden triangle effect. I would use long skinny pieces of wood and drop them in a random order around the boulders. Then I’d add the hornwort and water lettuce up at the top. Najas grass would work too.
