Well guys I just want some outside opinion here. We live in a 1000sq apt. Which is way too small for 2 people with a dog, 2 rabbits about a dozen hamsters, frogs, and 2 large fish tanks. The closets are stacked to the ceiling and is impossible to get anything out of them. We have about $350 extra bucks a month give or take after all bills. I get a raise in march and my gf in december. I'm sure not huge for her, but still. I know 350 isn't a lot of extra, but it works for us.

I want to completely move when are lease is up. We can't buy a house with the credit we have at the moment. I want a bigger place with a basement to house all of the animals. I don't think paying an extra $100-150 a month on rent is a bad idea for a bigger place we can actually live in. We have outgrown the apartment we live in.

My gf thinks though that we should stay and save that extra money. Even if we save 200 a month, that's 2400 a year which we could use for a wedding some day or a down payment on a house. If we stay we definitely need a storage unit to put all of the stuff we have in. We will also have to utilize the space we have a lot more better.

What do you all think? Save the money or spend some of it and have the space we are in dire need of.

i've learned that if there is something i don't use and sits there for more than six months, i toss it

now i actually have space in my garage

i had books from college that i thought would come in handy one day. i kept them for 10 years, never needed them. so glad i threw them away

Don't count your eggs before they hatch, that may dig a bigger hole then you guys can get out of.

You can rent houses for very cheap these days, but you don't ever get your equity back, its a buyers market right now, so wait till you guys have your new jobs and get on a govt assisted mortage program, then eventually you'll own the property instead of pumping money into it for rent and not getting anything back, after about 5 years of renting thats 42-60k of money you'll never see again. Hardly a good investment.

Hope that helps!

Be realistic about the space you have at the moment, save your cash and buy your own house if you want to have pets/animals/big tanks etc etc. Anything else is just a short-term fix and chucking more money away in rent will only put you further away from owning your own place. Even if it means downscaling at the moment (it sounds like you have a freakin zoo in your apartment!) it will be worth while in the long run. Knocking holes in walls to run tank plumbing without asking permission ('cpet for the wife of course!!) is great...

#3, save your rent money and try your best to buy a house!

We have a lot of stuff. We need to definitely do this. With the small space we need to keep stuff we use within a months time and put the rest in storage or just toss it. I think everyone keeps old college books. We probably have 20 that we keep for some reason or another.

Thanks. I've never thought of it that way. We will probably never have some 300k house so 40-50k would be an accurate accusation of money wasted. I hate wasting money, were very frugal so to actually think of it that way...plainly sucks. Lol

It is a zoo! our apt. is 2 bedrooms and the second is filled with animals. I will say though that most of them are adoptions. I don't think we have paid for a hamster in several years and one of the rabbits were given to us. I think if we had less animals we could put more effort in caring for the ones we have. The rabbits are suppose to be out of their cage for 4 hours a day on avg. That never happens, granted their in huge cages we made for them I'm sure they would like the attention.

I can do 1 and 3. Number 2 might not be an option. Lol
