What about key holes? They're cool looking little guys.

My experience with salvini is similar to what's been said. They absolutely hate each other. Nasty, evil, demon fish... But they're pretty.

Things may change as the fish mature.
Saying that a species will brake the mould sometimes.
From my own experience and from tales told by many other hobbyists they can be a force to be reckoned with.
I think sometimes due to their smaller size they can be grouped with fish like thorichthys and cryptoheros when in reality, most of the time at least,they are much more aggressive.
 
wish my local shop had Cryptoheros, those bandit cichlids also.
 
Have you considered a group of thorichthys?
I used to keep a group of 11 helleri in a tank simular in size to yours with no issues.DSC_0031~2~2~2~2~2.jpg
 
i thought thorichthys was firemouths. I've never seen those you posted^
