What Would You Guys Do?

Again, if they were here and saw violations with their own eyes, they won't do anything and just tell me call it in.

So I either let it go, report one or report all. That's my delima

I talked to the city and I MUST have 2 approved trees from a list and I have to have 1 approved plant per 15 sq ft which adds up to like over 150 plants. I can go back to grass and only required to have one tree. But I wanna do away with the maintenance and cost of water in the long run so I'm gonna do the desert theme which I must submit a drawing to the city and they charge $173 to review it. They'll tell me if they approve or what I need to change/add to get it up to code.
This has GOT to be Cali. Hahaha
On dealing with your neighbors, here is my take. I used to target shoot in my back yard. One day, I was out there as usual and a police car rolls in. Cop said that someone complained, knock it off, bla bla bla. I live in a rural area and only have 2 neighbors, neither of which are within visible distance, so it wasn't too hard to figure out who it was. So the next day, I walked to each neighbors house and asked if it was them. The second one actually said it was them. I politely gave them a talking to about being neighborly, looking out for each other, and solving problems civilly. By the end of it, they were sorry for what the did and it actually strengthened our relationship with the neighbors. I think starting a squeal war is just going to cause more problems. If you go talk to them and ask them to talk to you about any problems they have with you before they report you, you might be able to retain some neighborly atmosphere. And if that doesn't work, sing like a canary. :)

Turn them all in and when someone says something just say you also ! In hopes all can pin point the person who turned you in and all blame him/her.

It takes a lot of nerve to ask if you're gonna do something with your yard so I'd bet money it was her. She got so worked up over it she couldn't resist stopping your brother, and if he said u guys were gonna wait til next year that couldn't have made her very happy lol. It's a little late to explain the situation to her since she already reported u for it, but reporting her back will just make things more uncomfortable. So as annoying as it is, it might be best to just let this one go

sure is cali

well, the difference with your situation and mine is that I have to do the landscape that will cost me a few thousands. I was gonna do it anyways eventually. right now was just not financially right but i'm forced to make significant changes and sacrifices

I would've loved for them to approach me first before calling it in really. I think I could've explained to them a lot of things. or even receive a letter in the mail from an anonymous person letting me know their intentions and giving me a deadline

my brother didn't tell her when I was gonna do it. he told her we paved the backyard and the next project is the front yard. when we first moved into this house, it was a forclosure so the front yard landscaping was all dead. she had approached us at that time too to ask if we were gonna do anything about our front yard.

I usually would let something small go like you said. but this is costing me and my struggle is that it bugs me that I see violations too now that I've done some research and a part of me feels it's unfair that one person has to be compliant but others don't

and the nerve of someone calling to report you when they themselves are in violation is what gets to me a little

So, since the chickens are gone, the only thing you are in violation of is having a bare front yard? Is the city actually going to come down on you or are you just trying to please an overly nosey neighbor?

I would call on everybody just to make sure I got the hater.

haha its a good feeling to make someone pay for something they did, but your not 100% sure....still a great feeling
"they mess with me and my yard they better expect $h#t to happen"
