What's in the Bag x 5?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice! I tried a giraffe cat some years back. It was a Volta which is thought to be a smaller variety that stayed in a 17" size range. I sold mine when it hit 8" because it single handily managed to destroy a tank decor in minutes. It would burrow in the sand and move all the plastic plants to one side of the tank and then hide in them.
Smart cat,:p

Yeah I remember pming you about it a while back and at the time I decided against it for that reason. But I just kept coming back to them and eventually just said screw it, it'll be in a sparsely decorated tank anyway

I do miss having a cat in the tank. They are so cool to watch during feeding. To this day the giraffe cat is still one of my favorite. Mainly because it has the small mouth and wont eat its tankmates.

So the gulpers are peaceful to each other? Obviously they need to be in a species only tank according to those videos. (!) Do they have to eat a large amount? I mean if they can eat a fish their size... what do they need? They are really cute.

Also have never heard of or seen the giraffe cat. Really cool looking. I also would love to see updates.

Any more pics of anyone yet?

I was really good and kept quiet until the polys were revealed. ;)

Yeah I'm enjoying mine so far. I've always loved catfish, and it's definitely a huge perk that I don't have to worry about its tankmates disappearing like i do with my TSN

Nice, i might buy some ornate too, just dont know where to put it.
yay! Loving all this ornate love recently.
Just get a 40 breeder from petco for $40, sale ends soon though. By the time it outgrows that tank it'll probably be fine to put with the rest. lol this is how I end up with 6 tanks, great rationalization
6 tanks is awesome! I had 2(a 40 and a 20) in my bedroom when I was in college lol. Currently I have 2.5(one is a beta bowl).

ShanerBock888 ShanerBock888 , do you name your fish? If so Bouche would be a good name for the giraffe catfish;) Never seen or heard of any of those catfish either! Really like the Giraffe carfish!

Haha yeah I enjoy it. I don't even mind all the maintenance, doesn't bother me at all, I like doing it.

I do name my fish, except for my tinfoil barbs since they all look exactly alike and don't stop moving for long enough to pick out identifying characteristics. I was thinking of naming the giraffe "Bag," as in Bouche Bag lol. But it felt like too negative of a name for one of my dream fish. Haven't come up with a name for him yet, but I'm mulling it over

Yeah they're fine with each other, very anti-canibalism. They're supposed to eat a large meal every few days. Feed them the large meal, then wait for the stomach bump to go away and when it does feed them again. And apparently it's not ideal to push their ability to swallow huge fish. They're capable but it's not the healthiest thing for them to always eat like that. Once in a while is fine though, so I'm sure at some point I'll get a big fish for them to eat lol

I'll post some new pics of them tomorrow
