lol,
and you'll notice a correlation between bare bottom tanks, and small overstocked tanks.

When you keep 5 aros and 30 bichirs, and a few other tankbusters in something like a 5*2.5*2 or a 4*2*2 or a 6*2*2 or something like that you don't get much lean way for screw ups (in regards to water quality), you need to keep your water as clean as possible.

i have river rock with my silver along with tin foils, dats, and a gold nugget pleco.

well it dame cruel to keep more than 1 aro in a 4x2x2 tank let alone 5

plus i belive that bare bottom tanks are also part of the cause of drop eye

That is right it has been proven that bare bottom tanks are a cause of droop eye because they tend to focus below at there reflection instead of them looking up on the surface as there eyes were designed to.

If you were to have a bare bottom tank may i suggest you place a ping pong ball in the tank so they have something to focus on also feed them foods which float on the waters surface so that the can use the eyes efficently.

Now to make things interesting...

if thats the case... wouldnt bottom dwelling tankmates also cause droop eye?

Hobbyists in Japan cure droop eye buy trimming away the fat above the eye in a small operation. So if the fat's the cause... How does looking down cause this fat the accumulate?

Droop eye is a very puzzling prob and no one has a definate answer. I have a very shiny reflective bottomed bare tank for my aros. And not even my S.A aro has droop eye. So thats a mystery.

But one thing i can say is that if your aro hits 12" and has no droop eye... it will be highly unlikely for it to develop at all.

About drop eye.....I have a comm of aros and my tank is bare bottom. Of all 5 aros only one has drop eye. If bare bottom tank causes drop eye, won't all my aros have drop eyes too? :)

I dont have a completely bare bottom tank. I have a very thin layer of sand and it is bare in some spots.

This isnt because im lazy, its just that if I have to stir up the gravel all the time my aro will jump.
