Whats the deal with the FX5 shutting on and off?

I also agree with only 1 FX5 unless your bio load is crazy. I've used one on a 120 with moderate bioload with no problem. I also agree that you may create deadspots though , FX5 is only 600 gph so in a larger tank it won't generate much movement.

I've never seen mine stop and start again... :( I hope there's nothing wrong with it.. I mean I stare at the tank enough, I'm bound to have seen it go off by now.. don't know..

I only catch mine do it about once every couple weeks. It's not a loud filter at all so unless the house is totally quiet and you're not distracted you're probably not going to notice it.

I'm thinking this should cover me well enough as far as filtration goes, no?

i'm thinking filtration-wise, two fx5 will be enough no?

I hear you. Its just that I want a super-duper filtration on that extra high 110, know what i'm sayin'?

ok.. if you already know two FX5 are super-duper filtration why did you ask

one with a big diy spraybar will suffice.

1 FX5 is enough for the bioload.

If your tank lacks in clarity, i suggest a Magnum 350

I HATE my magnum 350! Absolutely hate it! But yet i still have 2 and use 1. they work aright, but they are a pain to clean and put back together..

I know two are super duper, just didn't know if it was enough.

Im going witht the following: Two fx5s and a couple of korillas.

Please don't do as I do people, please. I'm a fan of filtration, so i go overboard. Just me.

Is you tank a 110 with a 48x18" footprint? If so with two FX5s you are not going to have any dead spots.

True maybe (depending on tank decor), but you're basically paying over $200 for a 600gph powerhead. You can get a 600gph powerhead for $20. It makes no sense from a money standpoint, and I recall a thread by Redear complaining about money and tanks.

I got my 125 on craigslist complete with an XP3 for $140, for perspective. That's a whole other used tank, and then enough left over to fully stock it, for the price of an additional FX5 YOU DO NOT NEED.

I'm starting to see why people are getting a tad annoyed by you, Redear.

You can also effectively filter and clean the tank with a 12 dollar hydro IV sponge and a vacuum hose. So this makes anything over 30 bucks unnecessary. Your power head will not filter the tank if the the FX5 should fail. The powerhead will not filter out any particles, but only blow it around. Also having two filters makes for a more stable biofilter, as you can clean one while the other is not disturbed. I would not run a 110g tank on a single filter. Is 2 FX5s overkill, yes but not to the point that it is stupid. Maybe two XP3s would make more sense, IDK may just be up to individual preference.
