What's the most dangerous creature (to human) kept in an aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i remember being at my dads work party a long time ago which was at a lake beach, a blue ringed octopus brushed up against some kids leg. someone else caught it in a bucket and took it home for their fish tank. nobody died and it was a real blue ringed octopus because it was so beautiful:drool:

with a lot of rays its not the actual venom that kills, its the barb and where it penetrates that determins lethality most of the time. look at steve irwin, if i remember right it wasnt the venom it was the barb piercing his heart.

also the blue ringed octopus is only dangerous as the venom stops the nerve signals firing to the muscles keeping your lungs going. after a period of time victims recover if kept on a ventilator with no anti venom needed at all. most victims die of suffocation rather than the toxic effects of the venom.

and yes i watch too much discovery channel.

Red belly piranhas aren't dangerous to humans. Not in a aquarium, they are shy naturally to humans.

Ok, you may say they are naturally shy to humans but I tell you I would never stick my arm in a tank with them in!

My bf is keen to get them in our tank, told him if he does then there is no way that I'm helping to keep that monster tank clean, well that and its my tank ;)

Getting a lung full of microbes while sucking on a syphon? I saw a guy who had lost his foot to potting mix.

I've gotten a mouthful of tank water waaaaay too many times. I thought it was just gross and brushed my teeth for a while afterwards... but after reading about fish T.B., I've become more careful ;)

I thought we're talking things thats dangerous to human IN AQUARIUM, not in the ocean or lakes.

How big can said aquarium be? If unlimited then i would say some sort of shark...

Also, since we are talking "creatures" how about a anaconda/retic/burm?
