Whats the most expensive fish you ever bought???

On one fish, $400 on a datnoid. My concentration in the hobby is on the different Cichla species. By themselves none are usually more than $200. But, the awesome (and for my wallet, not so awesome) thing about bass is that they school and no two ever look exactly the same. So, when I find cichla that excite me I tend to blow my aquaria allocated savings all at once getting multiple. Most I’ve ever spent in one order was $980

My fiancé says I’m crazy. My response is, to be the best at what you love one day you’re going to need to get a little crazy along the way.?

For me it was saltwater fish. An Australian Harlequin Tusk. For 350. But that did include shipping.

Me too. $650 for a crosshatch trigger male. That's a good price too about half of what they normally go for.
Recently say last 3years $175 for my schoutdeni puffer.

I never buy just one fish (unless I already have one of the opposite sex) because I like to grow out a group of 6 or 8 to juvies to allow the cichlids to choose their own spawning partners. And breeding was always my intention.
One of my most expensive groups was shoal of 6 Paretroplus nourisatti, where the vendor had a purchase price limit of $350 (shipping extra, @ another $100), so I bought 6.
As it turned out, a 150 gal tank turned out to be too small, and they started killing each, so within 6 months the remaining pair had only spawned once (but eaten the eggs) and one killed the other, leaving 1 loner.
