Whats the most expensive fish you ever bought???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I touched a $1200 Port Jackson Shark before I knew it had a poison spine. We sold it to one of our clients for $2400

Elvis cost me 100 bucks. The fish he killed by smashing or eaten outright due to my arrogance cost around another 50!

$500 on a Turkana that died within 2 months on a single fish.
A mid $700 on a group of bichirs which included a $300 platinum Senegal.

300 for female and 600 for male here
If you trust that shady site sure

$50 Gold Nugget pleco that died after 1 week ?

Wow.

Last Year
I also had a gold nugget ($65) that went belly up 5 hours after getting him, still stuck on the glass. The replacement also went belly up in less than a day. :swear:

Had a nice sun catfish ($70). Couldn't survive out of the store 'pee' water and couldn't acclimate. Curled up and done in 6 hours...an 11 incher. :wall:

My synodontis ocellifer catfish Rex ($60) peeled and gutted by my Oscar Brick.

This year

My previous rainbow cichlid Snaps ($49) electrocuted by faulty heater. :angryfire

My current rainbow cichlid Pepper ($49) larger than Snaps, is a cute lil' goon and glass biter.

My supernatural Acara Felix ($47) arrived in a burst bag with no water, was electrocuted, and has prat fallen on concrete. Husky, friendly and healthy! My previous acara Skyy was large and only $15 but rolled over with no explanation after 2 weeks. Sometimes you get what you pay for...or Felix is just special.

I never buy just one fish (unless I already have one of the opposite sex) because I like to grow out a group of 6 or 8 to juvies to allow the cichlids to choose their own spawning partners. And breeding was always my intention.
One of my most expensive groups was shoal of 6 Paretroplus nourisatti, where the vendor had a purchase price limit of $350 (shipping extra, @ another $100), so I bought 6.
As it turned out, a 150 gal tank turned out to be too small, and they started killing each, so within 6 months the remaining pair had only spawned once (but eaten the eggs) and one killed the other, leaving 1 loner.

Diminishing returns to the extreme! ?
