i LOVE black throats,and have the scars to prove it,there a little mean at first and it sucks when the crap out that tar like stuff that stinks something fierce,by rights an adult black throat needs 100 square feet of space when there adult size,and even more for a water monitor,if you want something different that can be somewhat easy to care for i suggest a black and white tegu,there really nice looking and if you get a female they will only get around 2.5-3',watch for the argentinean tegu's though,those suckers are nasty,

or go back to the old faithfull bearded dragons,can't get much better then them for a reptile "pet"

Don't you still have a nile monitor to worry about taking care of? That animal alone should require all of your attention and resources, from my little amount of experience with them. It seems to me that you haven't made it to college yet.. which isn't a big deal, but when you go it's hard to find space for any animal. I had to sell my iguana of 8 years because my parents refused to care for him and there's no way he could have fit in my dorm room. I'd hold off for now and wait to see what the future has for store for you, since that nile will require a dorm room all to itself, haha.
