What's wrong with my Oscar?

Why start a thread seeking advice and not take it?

I just got done watching a severum die at my LFS. Someone dropped him off so they could move and it stressed him out. The other 20+ cichlids in the ~50 gallon tank ate him. He looked like he had ick the last time I saw him but when I looked closer it was bites. Even his eyes. Sad and terrible. The severum was the biggest in the tank and spared about a inch and half to the waterline. Probably outsized any other fish 7:1. He was stressed and looked just like your oscar when I saw him. That was when he had just arrived.

Can you get a storage container from walmart and move your convicts for a week? They seem to be healthy enough to take it if you get a clean one. Could save your oscar.

A note parallel to overstocking,

The nitrate being high and the nitrite not terrible but present, I'd adjust food. I make my fish scrounge. Keeps them busy and my nitrates low. Nitrites pop for like a day and are overwith. I don't know if you currently feed three times a day or what. It's just an idea. Siphon does wonders too if you don't want to adjust food.

Least ways, less waste can be produced by that amount of fish because less food is in the tank whether you remove waste or keep them searching for scraps so it doesn't sit through next meal.

I'm not sure what people are saying. He's in horrible shape...because the left side of his gills aren't moving. If you look at the photo, the gills on his right side are open while the left side stays immobile. I'm certain this is why he loses color and won't move or eat. Any solutions to help heal his gills?

Please give it up with the bullying and toxic water thing. Does anyone have anything to offer besides belittling me?

Seriously look at what your saying. Help me I need advice, then members respond trying to help you and then you respond by saying can someone please help and stop belittling me. So giving you advice is belittling you? If people where belittling you they'd say your a horrible fishkeeper or you don't know what your doing or something offensive directed at you. No one has done that! No one has insulted your intelligence, fishkeeping ability or anything else about you. They've merely offered you their opinions on what's wrong.

I also love the fact that your now saying the Oscar has breathing issues and you think that's the cause of him losing color and sulking but don't think a breathing issue has anything to do with water quality.

I have said my piece, as have all, and it all piints to the same direction.

You either believe in opinions received or you proceed like you want.

Your tamk, your fish, our time.

Ok guys cycling another 55 just for him. He will probably go in later this week once the ammonia comes back down to earth. For the time being, I have more bad news. Looks like he's having some problems digesting...

hey, is that piece of wood for aquarium use? anything else that could leech chemicals? also in my experience oscars need alot of oxygen in the water and that many fish would use a lot! good luck and try to take peoples advice even if it seems like they are attacking you... reading peoples words can be takien so many different ways...

just checked the pics and you have no air stone? is he gasping?

move the convicts to the new tank so the oscar can stay in familiar tank. you can use SeaChem Stability for cycling. it works, shake HARD before each pour.
thats not digestion problem, something more...
