What's your biggest disappointment in this hobby?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My biggest disappointment is that I wish I could keep all of my catfish in one tank but inevitably they end up not liking each other and I have to separate everyone. So I gave up and paired my Clown Knife and Asian Upside Down, now my big tank only consists of them. Even know the AUC bullies literally everything bigger and smaller than him except the Knife he's my favorite and I don't want to sell him.

In High School, I begged my parents to buy a bunch of Discus for me as my Graduation gift. Got several SHOW Discus pairs and some juveniles. I had never kept Discus before, mind you...... and was at that time just doing Oscars and Africans. So you could say my experience was still limited.
I also thought the best way to do it would be to have a Planted Discus Tank. Which I had never done a planted tank either. Well, long story short, I ended up killing everything. And wasting Alot of money.
To this Day, Discus are my Unicorn. I know what I did wrong, and know I wouldn't have any problems if I tried now.... but apart of me is still scared to try it again.

My biggest disappointments in the hobby have involved sellers, such as having the wrong species or variety substituted for the fish I ordered, as though I wouldn't notice. Not just bad business, but a real insult. Last time that happened was 15 years ago, last time before that over 20 years ago, so I've mostly been pretty happy.

The same can be said for a lot of humans in this world, but we still value and respect them for what they are.

I only keep pleco and catfish, to me they the have the highest of character, are extremely beautiful, and play a very important role in an ecosystem.

Setup a 180 gallon with heavy driftwood, defused lighting, floating plants, and a dozen various pleco. Then sit back an enjoy one of life’s most remarkable creatures.

Sorry but I take “waste of space” kinda insulting.
My gold spot sailfin is almost as friendly as my goldfish. And his fins flutter so beautifully. However my galaxy plec is a bit disappointing in that he’s constantly hiding, even at night.hoping that as he grows his hiding spots will become too small and I can get a better view. Lol

Her husband approaching her and calling her a waste of space, in no way shape or form is the same as her calling a type of fish a waste of space.. Your not a pleco first off, And even if you were, that wouldnt be directed at you.

Sry for the butt in, but i honestly hope that your drinking tonight or something, because a petty argument over someone elses opinion on what dissapoints them in their aquarium, then expecting an apology for what they dislike is shockingly absurd to me..
Amen

My biggest disappointment is the fact that I cannot get my ebjd to breed.

I have always loved the ebjd and tried them several times in the past without success of raising one into adulthood, now I have managed to raise one to an adult and found him a female but they do not want to breed, they are just happy being roommates lol

JDs are supposed to be easy to breed which bothers me the most, my Apistogrammas breed for me easily but not my JDs :-(

Mine was my first attempt at a CA/SA cichlid community, turned into a bloodbath. It did lead me to discovering this forum though so some good came of it.

I feel you bro, bought a few dovii juvies that murdered my group of firemouths, giant danios, and a senegal bichir OVERNIGHT in a growout tank a few years ago. My fault for not researching before i bought them though.
