What's your favorite Parachromis species?

I'm a big fan of the Parachromis genus.

I would rank them:
motaguense
friedrichsthalii (males especially)
managuense
dovii
loisellei

Well, my experience with them is limited but, there were two that just jumped out of the screen that I had to have....jag and dovii. I didn't want to set up a big tank for just a dovii, so I got my jag. He's awesome, and as said works well in the community. For those reasons, I'd have to rank managuense on top for me. Don't get me wrong, I don't have the personal experience with any of the others, but they just don't have that same beauty (to me) as those two, so that automatically puts them at a disadvantage right off the bat.

edit: all fish have their own individual beauty to me, as I could keep about ANY fish and be happy, those just have more of it.

i keep a pair of managuense and they are really personable fish
the pattern they get and the owner responsive they get is awesome and those 2 canine like teeth jutting out is just like icing on the top
the green and blue hues are also awesome

but as i have never kept any other parachromis species due to their unavailability here
my opinion doesn't count i guess

though i would like to get a dovii like balton777's that has some real nice blue hues and pattern i have seen on a fish

You get a little more icing with dovii.

all are great, but male dovii gets it for me because of adult size/personality/temperment .

I keep a pair of Jags and A family of Dovii but I can't decide between the two so I will say both but I have always kept Jags so there held in a high regard in my house. I have a friend with an awesome looking Tiger that has been peeking my curiosity if I may say there pretty nice as well.

After much thought, I am going to rate this 2 ways, Beauty and personality, as I have not kept Fred's I will not be able to fairly rate them. I do want and will have them, oh yes I will......

Beauty~
Red Tiger Mota - There is IMHO not a better looking Parachromis then a fully colored female mota, Comment all you want, I aint changing.

Personality~
My Jag - She was and is a freak and her male is sweet, responsive and aggressive. My Female Dovii, was a close second, as she was sweet, and I wish I had kept her, she dropped eggs in a tank by herself....

Overall~
Jag - My beauty Mango is a "Family Dogfish" and once I get my tank space worked out again, she (and her mate "Cash") will come home.

Nuth, really excellent post, man. I love the way you broke it down. I agree the RTM is a very beautiful fish. It seems personality carries a lot of weight though.

Remember you guys, there's no wrong answer. It's all preference and opinion but keep'em coming if you got'em.

mota hands down for me. my male mota has to be kept alone due to aggression, but he is worth all the tank space he occupies. i like my jag and the fact she can be kept in a community tank, but the mota is just more responsive and impressive.
