Whats your next filtration upgrade?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just added an addition 2 x FX5's (thanks JohnPtc) to my 600 gallon tank.

So now I have a 125 sump w/dual sock filters for my mechanical. A 3600 GPH Dolphin Ampmaster pump for circulation. An aqua UV UltimaII pond Filter for my bio, and ceramic rings w/foam filter in the two Fluvals for additional bio and mechanical. In addition a 40 aqua UV Sterilizer for algea control since my tank resides next to a window.

For 10k gallons you would need tons of pipe and a slow flow to rob the air of oxygen. That denitrator will have to be a monster. A single unit would be good but multiple parallel units would give a higher flow rate without the chance of aeration.

For my 519 I was planning on 12x pieces of 2" pvc that were 22" long, each with a 50-75 foot 1/4" nitrification tubes. Each pipe only makes a drop a second because anything more will provide aerated water which will kill the denitrifying bacter.

I don't know how cost effective it would be for you, but there is an aquarium based product called "deniballs" that provide the carbon, nutrients and surface area for denitrification. You are supposed to replace them once a year.

If you find a cheaper bulk solution let me know. I am interested in denitrators for my tank as well.

thankx i will check it out

300 gallon tank currently has 1 FX5 and 1 Cascade 300 HOB

I will remove the Cascade 300 to use on another tank and add a 55 gallon W/D sump to my 300.

So, 300 gallon tank will have a FX5 and a 55 gallon W/D sump turning over close to 3600 gallons per hour.:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

Always wanted to and still plan to add my 1st W/D to my 180 Gallon tank. Have a 45 gallon tank lying around. Although my FX5, Fluval 405 & Emperor 400 seems to be doing a nice job.
