" If you are buying an illegal fish (Whether endangered or just prohibited due to it's nature), you are directly adding to that problem."

lol come on man.

last time i was at a LFS in LA county, i overheard a customer asking about a fw ray for sale. a fish that is 100% illegal in CA. the customer was an older couple and just thought it looked "neat" and wanted to buy it. the owner completely obliged and told them a bunch of BS about what it would take to keep it alive, tank requirements, etc.

now, are you telling me that old couple is "adding to the problem" or is the LFS' fault for blatantly stocking and selling an illegal fish. there is plenty of blame to go around if you want to look at it from that perspective.

Everything written above is a direct contribution to the Illegal pet trade and animal trafficking. All parties involved are at fault for supporting it.

What part of this is in dispute???

C'mon, the old couple aren't at fault. How are they, who probably saw the fish in store and liked it, meant to know that an illegal fish would be so blatantly on show and for sale. They saw it, like it and asked as any curious person would. It is then on the shop keep (imo) to inform them to the legality of the fish. Sure the elderly couple should go research more but that ain't the way things go.

I personally would be a hypocrite to say I have followed the letter of the law on this myself..I have kept both Exotic goby species found in the Great lakes..This was before the newer more strict laws but it was even then a bit of a NO NO to do so.

For some on who has confessed to owning illegal fish you take a very legal view on other doing so, hypocritical you might say.

I would like to know, how many of you who say it's wrong and to either obey the laws or live somewhere else break laws yourselves.

Zoodiver you take a negative view to people keeping illegal fish and I see you live in Minnesota. Ever have oral sex, sleep naked or cross the border with a duck on your head (?). These are all ridicules laws from your state (www.dumblaws.com), or have you ever sped or J-walked (real laws that save lives), I bet you, along with everyone else has. How come people think that they can pick laws to obey then crucify others for breaking different laws. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's right to murder, steal or assault anyone but victim less crimes that only affect you are fine.

They should just tax and prohibit them.

People who want these rare fish are going to pay big money for them either way.

People who want these types of rare fish aren't stupid and aren't going to release them.

We sell Pacus, Pangasius, RTCs, Aros, TSNs, and CK's by the thousands every year. They are more likely to be dumped than a RTG, Snakehead, or Black Ray.

The government needs to figure out a way to harness problematic things like this, and make money from it to pay the national debt. Just like pot.

Yes, both parties are at fault.

Store owner should be shut down and prosecuted for offering blackmarket animals. Also, he should have informed them of the law if he were really looking after the animals and not looking to make a profit.

Buyer's are also obligated to be aware of what they are buying. When was the last time a guy buying crack got off saying "I didn't know it was wrong" ?

It doesn't happen.

Can't say I'm guilty of braking any of the mentioned laws. Sorry.

don't really care....we have a lot of stupid laws....however....when raising children it is probably the wrong message to send that it is OK to break the law because you think its dumb or doesn't apply to you only to others

I totally agree, now I have to get back to my Limewire download. :)

"Store owner should be shut down and prosecuted for offering blackmarket animals. "

lol, well, you see here in reality most people who have the power to stop it just don't care. they know most of the rules are flaunted by LFS' owners and don't do ANYTHING to stop them. i don't know how it is in the LFS' in MN, but out here in CA you will find illegal fish at just about EVERY independently owned LFS. like i said if the DFG decided to tomorrow they were going to start making random raids every few weeks of all the LFS' stores in socal they could accumilate millions in fines and hundreds if not thousands of illegal fish. but they don't and they never will.

"When was the last time a guy buying crack got off saying "I didn't know it was wrong" ?

yeah, it happens all of the time. i've been pulled over for speeding 3 times in the last seven years. all three times i was going twice and sometimes almost three times the legal limit. not one of those times resulted in a speeding ticket because when the officer asked me if i knew how fast i was going i jokingly responded "no officer, i was too afraid to look down at my speedo". all three cops just chuckled and told me to tone it down a bit.

the world is not all black and white man...mellow out a bit.
