I disagree with the points of the money being better spent for charity etc.

If this were the lobby of say Apple, we would be like oooh and ahhh. But choose to have a double standard that churches aren't supposed to spend on aesthetics like normal corporations. I disagree wholeheartedly. In fact, my belief is churches should be run like corporations, with a passion for excellence in all aspects of its operations including aesthetics.

I'm more curious about how much it must cost to run and maintain that "tank"...

To decorate such an amazing tank with garish fake coral is a travesty:screwy:
Real coral is to my knowledge very hard to keep alive, and requires ALOT of attention.

What would you have instead?

Though, formyself it should be freshwater tank with aquascaped areas.

I would just have bare rock.
I'd have it fresh water too, and I wouldn't have fake plastic plants as decoration.

Uhmmm, so you blame people for having fake coral, and wanna change some plastic for some other plastic? That doesn't compute to me.

Yeah, maintenance alone must cost a small fortune. I bet they must have at least one person as full time maintenance staff. Not to mention water changes, food, electricity, filter replacement, etc.
