When should I say Bye Bye and euthanize...

No freezing. He'll be incredibly frantic and stressed. Would you like to have a messed up spine then be thrown into an incredibly cold temp. you didn't know even existed, and be tortured for about a minute before you pass?

Go the clove route.

Freezing is not the best way but it could have died one frozen death already instead it is suffering for way too long while you talk about it and take pictures.

oh boy... no more arguing he's passed away when I woke up this morning. I can't decide what to do last night and i have a life to worry about so just decided to wait till tomorrow to get clove oil... didn't make it. I felt bad that he had to suffer :(... *sigh*

oh and about the behavior I've noticed... I shared from my other post that my other sen (Dumbo) seems to 'bully' Toothless (the one who passed away) when he's started to become unable to eat. I thought that he might have sensed the weakness. But when Toothless turned for worse I noticed Dumbo stopped bullying Toothless.:confused: He seemed like 'sniffing' him, softly touching him with his nose instead of nipping. He kinda looked like he was looking out for him. And when Toothless died, Dumbo kind of 'explored' the last spot Toothless was in. Kind of like 'searching', 'wondering' where Toothless went... I dunno maybe my interpretations were unnecessary or maybe there's a stronger bond in their 'pack' that we don't know. Even a friend noticed that he looked like he was searching for something (I didn't tell him yet about my own observations). oh well so that's the story...

I still have Toothless' body. I'm planning on doing a necropsy to see what really happened on his back. Hopefully I'll do it right...

Although it sounds brutal, putting it in a bag and slamming it down is the one method that ensures the least amount of suffering. Fish feels pain for the total of about 1 second; that is...if you do it right. If you're squeamish and you can't end it in a single slam, then you just make your fish suffer even more.

Oh gosh how I wish I had the means to do that lol. Would have been more pleasant I guess.

I actually agree. It seemed more 'humane' than freezing without the clove oil (cause wasn't able to get it last night). But, I was afraid that I won't do it right and cause more suffering.

Thanks guys. He's now in a better place (lol). Well, I did a necropsy and here's the link for those who are interested to see: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=373481

I just decapitate my fish. Or when i go fishing and want to eat something I catch. Quick hit with the hatchet.

I kinda agree with chopping, smashing, severing spinal compared to freezing without clove oil. But the thing is it very hard if you're new to that deed. And it's different if you do it to your actual pet compared to something you just caught to eat >__<. We have feelings for our pets

I have done it to some of my fish.
