No, some bichirs max out at less than 20". In fact I would say most of the upper jaw species are less than 20".

ropes, albinos, sens and dels. Dels are the most awesome. If you are gonna get a del, only get 1 or 2 for ur tank cuz they get to 14 inches. no fish else.

I'd avoid dels in a 55, Stick with the send. If you want a del, go with a 75 gallon.

They shouldn't be a problem as long as they aren't too aggressive. Most dempseys I've seen are rather timid. Just make sure they are too large to fit into the bichirs mouth.
