Which bichir is best for a 55G?

They're just that cool. Prehistoric looking, loaded for bear with attitude, yet you can keep multiples, same or different species in the same tank as adults.

you should just upgrade and make bichers your substrate.

I know you say 55gal only but.....if you dont allready have the tank why not just get a tank with more depth. a 90gal is still 48" long but 18" deep. I think a 110gal is 48" long and 24" deep.

If you know this hobby....go with the biggest thing possible because...youll end up getting it a year from now.

No, some bichirs max out at less than 20". In fact I would say most of the upper jaw species are less than 20".
