which canister filter??

Two AC110 and an FX5?... you're overkilling it.

Keeping in mind you are going to keep the two AC 110 running then the right call would be the CF500. With a CF500 you'll get a lot of flow, a lot of mechanical media and a very decent amount of biofiltration. 2 AC110 and one CF500 are delivering the so hyped 10X flow rate to youir tank, so there's not need to invest on a very expensive FX5.

Thats not to bad. I dont find it overkill at all personally.

On my 90 gallon planted tank/Jungle I run a CF500UV, and FX5 and a AC110. :headbang2

My tanks has been that way for more then a year and very happy.

I would save the FX5 and just leave the AC and CF500 on, that is a hell of a bunch of flowrate for that tank, by using also the FX5 you're only unnessesarily wasting power IMHO but...that's your money.

Actually its just right. The tank is heavily planted it grows like a jungle. I can trim my plants down to very little ad prune them quite a bit and 5 days later ive got 8 inches or more in growth. Besides the filters Ive also got 2 to 3 cirulation powerheads in the tank for flow.

Each filter has a strong point. The AC110 does good at surface agiation for quality gas exchange. I run the CF 500 with my reactor for my Co2 injection and it mixes it beautifly and pumps it into the tank. Its primary purpose is mechanical filtration. The FX5 is primarily a bio filter along with under water current assistance. The powerheads make sure along with the canisters that ive got no weak flow spots in the tank where it can lack Co2. All in all the filters needed serviced every other month from the fish load and the detrus amounts creadted by plnt matter and such. In a planted tank you never vacuum the subtrate.

It all really depends on the set up and how things are being used. This is some of my original points that first you must figure out your needs. There is NEVER anything as to much filtration as far as im concerned.

I'm a huge fan of over filtration...that said, if you are only keeping 2 fish in that tank 2 ac110s AND an fx5 seems like way overkill to me...

I dont want to be percieved as an stubborn duche, but being that^^, OP has only two fish so 2 AC110, 1 CF500 and a FX5 seem like a hell of an excess of artillery to me, but to each their own.

I keep a 11" solo Flower Horn in a 80 gal tank that I filter using a CF400 and a "built in" wet dry of 200 gal x h these two deliver 572 gal x h and a 7.15 turnover rate, fish is happy and water is OK.

Where are the eheim groupies? They normally have chimed in by now. ;)

Eheim wasn't mentioned as a choice or I would chime in with one :) When I was looking for a temporary filter until I got another 2262 I was going to go with a 500uv and they are $130 on amazon, not $150. I ended up going with a Odyssea CFS14i instead and really like it. With your current stock and I honestly think any of them will be fine, however if you ever plan to add more stock or change your stock the fx5 would probably be a better choice because it's always better to go bigger.

He is keeping a couple of midevils so I dont think there are plenty of tank mate options, midevils would kill every fish that gets into the tank.

Yes, I agree, however he might change stock later down the road with replacing the midevils and it's better to have more than less filteration anytime.
