Any of you guys have any experience pairing a pair of dovii? I have tried a couple different females so far. I use a divider so only the female can get back and forth. I have been able to take it out before for a week and I thought I had a pair......then one morning I woke up and did not see the female. She lived but barley.....He is extremely aggressive. Just wondering if any of you have not been able to pair your male off???

i caught both, a bunch in nicaragua and 1 in costa rica, i have kept only tank strains i think nicaraguan looks the best darker fish with great blue highlights...

@NWatson I would use a divider or put some clay pots or pvc tubing that the female can hide in. Big enough for her to fit and small for the male. So when he decides to get into Ike beat Tina mode, she has some cover. It happens sometimes with overly aggressive males.

I have used a divider with both females.....as I explained in my post. I just don't want to keep in there. The current female cannot even go over to his side after 3 months or so. I have built caves for them to hide in......I am just wondering if maybe he won't tolerate and pair off......I would think that is unlikely. Maybe just needs to find one he excepts? I might try the clay pots although I am not a fan of these either. Thanks for the suggestions.

He is 9-10". I thought about that but would hate for a female to kill him since I have raised him from a 1/2" fry. I doubt that would happen although I read post on here of females killing males. That will probly be my next step.....just maybe get one that is a couple inches smaller at most. I have also read from a knowledgeable fellow MFK that you usually have better luck with smaller females.

Not too much smaller. My larger pair, the male is 16in and his female is 11in. My smaller pair the male is 10in and the female is 7in maybe 8. I never had that problem with dovii or any other parachromis. To me it happens alot with Amphilophus. Labiatus and Citrinellus. Also Chancho. But mainly labiatus.

I think I'll give them another month or so and then start looking for a female close to his size and see what happens. I would hate to get rid of the female as she is a very nice looking Nic. better looking then the CR I see and have. She had great colors through her body/fins. Although really she is not that much smaller maybe 6" or better.
