2ND THAT, THE MOST PERSONABLE FISH IVE EVER OWNED

3rd that, I got my pbass for free and still it is my favorite fish. Has tons of personality. Always swimming around really quickly and attacks pellets like no other! :headbang2

Swims around a lot and eats like a predator doesn't = personality

I've never kept one though, so I can't say if they have no personality or not.

In my area i think the florida gar over priced. i dont see paying $30 for a fish i can catch in the river down the road from me...lol

you should always try and do research on a fish before you purchase... i don't have any specific fish in my mind right now... but i know many times after reading about a special high priced fish before my purchase i was thankful i never pursued the purchase..and this happened many times.. some fish are just too difficult to keep... they are weak or delicate and very costly and some should not be kept in home aquaria ... they last for awhile and then 99% of the time even the most experienced fish keeper encounter loss... mostly s/w fish... but freshwater species encounter this too... so educate yourself with lots of info before you buy that expensive rare fish... know what to expect and how critical the care and make sure you have the expertise and environment to offer survival...so in my opinion ..the ones you lose are not worth the cost no matter what the cost..

Good point RD. I don't frequently lose fish but 2 of 3 beani that I had are lost. The third is in quarantine w/ internal parasites (white stringy poo) and not eating. I tried to accommodate their nutritional needs with no luck. This is one fish that I would love to see mature for me but not enough to devote a whole tank to.

Any hybrid cichlid is overprized. They should be outlawed. Ditto for tattooed and lazered fish as well as balloon morphs of any fish.

Don't know about the US but over here some Tropheus cichlids are silly prices

okay someone mentioned they thought pacu's are overpriced? lfs 6$ ofr 6" pacu. 1$ and inch is just about as cheap as it gets for non feeders. lol plus they do get to a monster size and have plenty of personality.

also no persoanlity in plecos? my commons have plenty and my 16" is particularly mischievous. see here

I agree that fish that need more care should be expensive to make sure that those who buy them can afford to house them as well (although that's never a guarantee). but some are not that hard to breed in captivity, can be kept under normal parameters, and still have an expensive pricetag.

that said if I had 1000$ and the right setup I would pay it for a dragon eel. I guess it all depends on how much you like the fish.
