I'm going to use a frame pool by Bestway (112 x 49 x 54), so no windows.

Actually I should rephrase, an air driven skimmer would be easiest to build, I need to do some more research and experimenting if I want to design another kind of skimmer, like co or counter current.

Aesthetics isn't something that I'm too worried about. If aesthetics was a concern, I wouldn't use a frame pool lol, I'd use a custom aquarium or wooden pond.

But yeh I could do that do, have that bioball drum in the actual pond (since it's a rectangular pond, it'll be on the side, if the pond was round, it would be in the centre), and run the skimmer externally.

The pool is 24 inches tall, so I'd imagine that the water would be filled up to the 20 inch mark. The pool would look very shallow, considering that it'll be on the floor, but hey, I might be able to give a shallow reef/sandbar biotope look to the pond.
