which of these piranha would u get nd y?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
based on the list you provided, it really depends on tank size, because just about all of those options will require very different sized tanks... if you have a small tank (55 or under), i'd stick with a sanchezi or even a small rhom if you can upgrade later, i'd recommend a 75 gallon tank for the elong, and at least a 75 gallon, preferably larger, for a group of pygos.

if tank size is not an issue, i'd go with either a rhom or a group of natts depending on whether you want a solo fish or a group. i like groups of pygos, but they require a lot more room, a lot more maintenance, and a lot more food, so that's always something to think about.

having owned a serra, I would say RBPs. All P's are pretty skittish, but at least with pygos you have more than one fish. Serras are beautiful to look at, but boring. Whole tank full of just one solitary fish. They're more fun when they're bigger too.

I really dont care how the piranha looks, but rather I want an active and non shy fish.

if active and non shy are part of your criteria, you might want to look at a different kind of fish.

If I had to keep Ps I would want an elongatus...

Hi.

I'd rather a shoal of RBP, I think a big thank with a shoal gives you much more fun that a big tank with a single fish, but thats me.

Cheers.

yes i couldnt agree anymore! And im not just saying this because i own RBP,

I have a shoal of caribes and also 12" black diamond rhombeus, both pygos shoals and solo beast have their own attractions. if you have tanks I'd say get them lol. but what you can have really depends on what size tank you have and/or the ability to upgrade.

I'm just curious cuz i'm a curious dude....how come you've been hangin out here lately? My best bet is the convict thread originally drew you in but i'm surprised to still see you postin.

Depends on the tank size. I've always liked having a shoal of red bellies rather then a single serra.

I have a 6ish inch rhom. (skittish so hard to measure). He is ok, but kinda boring. I fell in love with this Sanchezi they had at the lfs a few months back. (they sold it the week before my tank was set back up, after having it in the store for 2 months) I really wanted that fish. He was as friendly as a hungry Oscar. My rhom really only ever swims to the glass to see the cat (and try to eat him) but shows no interest in the dog of any human. When a human walks buy he heads to his hiding spots. It is starting to go to his hiding spot more slowly, and will swim a few laps if your sitting in the room now. The chances of hand feeding are years and years away if ever. Its a miricle if I ever even see him eat. He has very good eyesite and can see me from accross the room, even laying perfectly still in the couch without looking towards him. Im hoping when he gets bigger he will act with humans how he does with the cat, but he grows really slow.

It sounds like you got a rhom with a dull personality, it happens, thats why you can't really 100% suggest a species of p to anyone and guarantee that it will be active and what they're looking for. My black rhoms and my black diamond rhom are all active and aggressive, only one of the smaller 3" blacks is somewhat skittish but not that bad. My 7" black diamond is tough, active, not skittish, hungry and mean.

Ironicly(to your situation) I had a sanchezi 3 years ago that was boring and behaved just like you say your black rhom does now.

To the thread starter if you ewnd up getting a black rhom I would recommend you try to get one anywhere from 4-7 inches, mainly because they grow so slow and tend to be more skittish when small(although they are still very aggressive even when tiny).
