There is the American Pitbull terrier. Jst because he has a pit doesn't mean he fights them (i'd hope not). Bully breeds make amazing familiy pets for children too.

If you just want something that is extremely mean you should get a Trimac. Just as mean as a RD but a hell of a lot better looking.
